Backyard putting greens have grown in popularity over the years. Some pro golfers swear by them, while others think that natural grass is the best option for the person practicing their putt at home. It is important to note that while grass can be a good option, it doesn’t offer the overall convenience of the synthetic counterpart.

For example, my own experience with synthetic putting surfaces has been really favourable. I got one in order to allow me to practice more without having to constantly go round the golf course. And for that I found it really good. If you are serious about your game then I would definitely say to go for it. I also used it in combination with this guide, and my putting has come on in leaps and bounds.

In defence of a grass putting green, you get what is actually on the golf course. But unless you have the full staff that the golf course has there is a huge hassle in taking care of all that grass. It needs to constantly be mowed, fertilized and water carefully otherwise you will get brown patches. When it gets too long you won’t be able to play your game as well. So, unless you want a second full time job natural grass isn’t the best solution available.

Take into consideration the synthetic material that putting courses offer. This material can withstand anything the weather does on average during a year. In addition to that, it never requires you to remember to water it, and the height of the grass will always remain the same. It is easy, low maintenance putting green for only a little above the cost of actual grass.

Before you begin the process of having backyard putting greens installed, there are several items that are important for you to take into consideration. For starter’s what is your overall budget? Some types of putting greens are expensive and can quickly increase the overall price. You’ll also need to decide on the area you will be installing your new investment, and remove any slopes that are currently there for them to work properly.

Outside of that though, the choices are endless. Many companies do offer exceptional lines of synthetic putting green to help design your ideal putting course. You’ll just need to work closely with a consultant to make sure you get the best possible deal. To save money, consider having your putting course installed during an off season. Outside of that be sure that you have an experienced installer putting the course in, otherwise you might end up with something you can’t use.

Remember, that the main reason generally for installing these is to improve your putting, and so make sure to also take a good putting course so that you can get the most benefit from it.

Best of all those looking for a bunker and a chipping area can have those options placed inside of their custom designed unit. This means that no matter what area you want your home course to focus on, there is a company ready to go with the design and will get you setup quickly and efficiently.

When you are ready to improve your putting and move forward, you should measure out the area that you are looking to install your new investment. Take into consideration slopes in the yard, and your overall budget then work with a reputable company to help you take your course to the next level. Backyard putting greens make a great investment not only in your backyard, but your own home as well.

I have found it to be a really great asset to my home, and a really nice stress reliever at the end of a long day to be able to go and putt a few balls without having to jump in the car.

I am also able to practice the putting drills I learned here, and that has really helped me to improve my game.

Backyard putting greens are the perfect solution for the person that wishes to quickly improve their golf game and wishes they had a golf course directly outside, without the high cost of living next to one. With the solution in your backyard you can end a hard day putting balls and improving your overall game. For the average person this is a dream come true, and should be a welcome change to paying the high fees that some golf courses charge.

Speaking personally, I took two steps recently that dramatically improved my game. The first was to install this backyard putting green and the second was to practice much more regularly on improving my putting.

I found that with a combination of those two strategies I was able to lower my average round score by seven strokes

Installation of these backyard putting greens can vary. There are do-it-yourself kits, or the less adventurous can go directly to the professionals and have them install a solution in only a few days, depending on the size you are looking to install. Either way is acceptable, and when you choose to go the synthetic route for your backyard putting area there are some great benefits that you get.

For starters your investment is completely weather resistant. It can be the burning sun of Arizona or the constant rain in Oregon either way the quality of your putting green won’t change. It will be ready for you to use, when you want to use it. Since these are high quality units you also won’t have to worry about them breaking down too quickly, as most materials are designed to withstand years of intense practice.

My own is standing up really well, even though I am giving it lots of use!

For the golfer that loves to play, but has serious grass allergies this can be the best solution as well. Since the entire makeup is artificial you don’t have to worry about having any allergies as a result of the synthetic grass. It is hypoallergenic and safe for the whole family. Plus this material is always perfectly manicured and you never have to water it. It is low maintenance which means more practice time.

This was a big deal for me, because after going through various courses this was really fired me up again about golf and made me want to get in lots of practice. That would have been much harder to do if I hadn’t had my own spot to practice on. (I could still have done it, but I would have had to go to the golf course more often to pull it off)

If you are worried about the effect it will have on your game, don’t be. The synthetic fibers are designed to actually act like grass when you play the game. The ball will react like it would on a normal course. This means that when you are practicing your putt, you are truly perfecting your technique in a style that will pay out when you go for the full 18.

Every course design is customizable. Since you aren’t required to have the run of the mill selection there is a better chance to design these putting greens to your personality. You can have a simple long strip in the backyard, or go for the entire mini golf course option. Whichever works best for you can be designed according to the budget that you have available.

Remember these courses are designed to be safe for the whole family. So from pets to children you can have a safe alternative in your backyard. Just be sure that the manufacture that you choose offers a lead free turf.

My advice is to take some time to treat yourself and improve your game. Backyard putting greens can help give you a way to relax while helping you to improve your overall game.

Golf is much like a war rather than a battle, in that there are many different components such as driving, chipping and putting that could be considered the ‘Battles’ of any particular golfer to improve, and then cumulatively if you get all of them just right then you end up having a great war and lowering your golf score.

Now, improving your short game is one key aspect of that overall ambition, and there are several techniques that you can employ to help. One of them is getting yourself more backyard putting greens practice, as the more time you spend practicing the better. Whilst another option is to imporve your current equipment, or get some extra golf lessons.

Both can be a good approach, and I discuss them extensively here.

To start off go and read this article about Backyard Putting Greens, and get cracking on lowering your score!
